In 2021 we launched our new collaboration with five wonderful North American Brand Ambassadors: Marie Segares, Courtney Whitehead, Mary Beth Temple, Rhondda Mol and Rebecca Velasquez. We started 2022 with each member of the team doing a social media take-over for 3 days each month, see below the wonderful FREE patterns they have already been showcasing on Instagram in their own words.
Instagram Take-Overs
DECEMBER 2021 – Rebecca Velasquez
DAY 1: The Pecci Squishy Scarf – crochet pattern in King Cole Chunky Tweed
“Hey ya’ll! I am Rebecca Velasquez, and I’m thrilled to be here and taking over King Cole’s insta for the next 3 days! A little about me: All things yarn is my passion 💖 During the week, I design in both knit and crochet from my home in Houston, Texas. I spend most weekends at my local yarn store, teaching beginner and speciality classes.
I hope you love crochet because I have been saving up a few new patterns, just for this takeover!
Today’s pattern can be found on my website. The Pecci super scarf uses 4 skeins of the incredibly squishy King Cole Chunky Tweed and is truly a beginner-friendly pattern!
Chunky yarn + Large hook = Fast make! There is still time to get this one wrapped for giving! Enjoy the FREE pattern!
DAY 2: The Tabei Hat – crochet pattern in King Cole Fashion Aran
“Hello, Hola, & Howdy! Welcome back 🤠
I’m so happy to see you on Day 2 of my insta takeover here at King Cole! I really hope you loved yesterday’s free pattern. It’s still on the site & free. There is not an end date, so bookmark these takeover posts or pin images from my site so you can get back to the patterns at another time.
Sooo, speaking of patterns, I told you I’ve been saving some good ones for ya. Today’s is Stani, a divinely simple shawl worked in the super delicious King Cole Timeless Chunky. This one is made in their new colour, Cameo. Isn’t it amazing? I’m already a lover of pink, but, WOW! they hit the mark on this one. 💫
Being in the US, King Cole is a fairly new to me yarn. But ya’ll I’m so in love. This alpaca blend, Timeless, is so swoon-worthy, the softness is actually a bit ridiculous. I’m currently working on a top in Indulge, another alpaca blend-but with sparkle!, that will be coming out shortly and I have some Finesse (cotton/silk) sitting on my desk, making me dream of summer knits….*sigh.
DAY 3: The Stani Shawl – crochet pattern in King Cole Harvest DK
I am super glad that you have stopped in for the last pattern drop!
Today I am offering Tabei. This is a snug beanie loaded with texture and is given its fantastic stripes because of the self-striping yarn.
Tabei is made in Acorn. It is a super fun Aran weight yarn that stripes as you work but the colours fade in and out ombre-style! Love it 😍
I’m going to be making myself another Tabei, but I’ll be using the King Cole Fashion Aran; I am so in love with tweedy flecks!
Because I live in the sub-tropics (did you know Houston is on the southern coast of Texas? psst, it’s okay, most people don’t! 😉), it is very warm here. Today was 80, that’s 27c for my non-US friends. So a light jacket is usually all that’s needed through our winters, but we like to add cosy hats just to make it *feel* like winter. Lol!
Don’t forget to bookmark these posts for later stitching and I’d be absolutely honoured if you drop in my account and give a follow. Let me know what you thought of the patterns, I always love hearing from fellow yarnies!! ♥️”
JANUARY 2021 – Courtney Whitehead
DAY 1: Rainy Day Hat in Autumn Chunky
“Hi! I’m Courtney of Creations by Courtney! I live near Atlanta, GA with my husband, son and twin daughters. By day, I’m a licensed psychologist, and when I’m not doing clinical work, I’m dreaming of crochet. This especially happens late at night. #teamnightowl I love designing size-inclusive garments, accessories and occasional home decor pieces. And every other Friday, I host an online stitching time with fibre friends from all over!
We’ll be hanging together for the next 3 days, as I finally share some crochet goodness with you during my King Cole IG take over.
To start off, I remade my Rainy Day Hat in Autumn Chunky, colourway, Morning Dew. Just look at those shades of blue and hints of purple and teal. Purple 💜 is my FAVORITE colour followed closely by teal. This colour offered a pleasant surprise! Swipe to see for yourself!
This pattern is now free forever on my site, so we all can have a textured, slouchy hat that happens to coordinates perfectly with several other crochet patterns that use the same stitch. 😏
Don’t you just love how those colours worked up?!?
I love a subtle striping effect!”
DAY 2: Forest Cardigan in Cuddles Chunky
“Drum Roll 🥁 for a brand new pattern!
I was so excited to finish this project because the yarn choices were out of my comfort zone of fades and bright colours, but worked wonderfully together. I know I can be out there sometimes with my colour choices, so I decided to switch it up.
I think Cuddles Chunky is my new favourite faux fur to work with because it really is cuddly and was not a nightmare to frog. Yes, it was actually easy to frog a few stitches!
Big Value Tonal Chunky is a surprise in a skein! It’s a quality acrylic that was easy to work with, no splitting, and just a fun colour.
I had to incorporate something from nature with this cocoon-style cardigan since I chose Pale Greens. With a combination of double crochet, the modified pine trees, x-stitch and crossed extended double crochets, you get the Wandering through the Forest Cardigan.
You’ll be surprised at how quickly this works up, and you’ll love wearing it often just to rub against the collar. Don’t be shy about caressing those stitches, it’s just that soft.
Enjoy this free pattern on my blog. If you want to customize the fit, consider grabbing the colour-coded PDF from my pattern shops.”
FEBRUARY 2022 – Rhondda Mol
DAY 1: Sweet Serenity Triangle Scarf Pattern
“Hi, there! My name is Rhondda Mol and I live in a small community in Ontario, Canada with my husband and 2 children. I’ve been blogging and designing since 2012. Other than spending time with my family, playing with yarn and crocheting, I also dabble in creative hobbies like paper crafts and genealogy.
Over the past few months, I’ve been able to try a number of beautiful fibres and yarns from King Cole. One of my favourites is their Drifter Aran Yarn. I’ve designed a number of free crochet patterns using this beautiful yarn, including my Sweet Serenity Set.
The Sweet Serenity Hat is crocheted with Shade 4180 (Alps) and a 5.5 mm (I) hook. The pattern is available in 5-sizes ranging from Small Child (age 3-5 years) to Adult Large. This project is worked in rows. For the Adult Medium hat, you will need 162 m (176 yds) of this yarn.
The Sweet Serenity Triangle Scarf is crocheted with the same yarn and hook. The finished wingspan is approximately 112 cm X 56 cm in height. You will need 400 m (436 yds) of your favourite shade of King Cole Aran Yarn to make this project.”
DAY 1: Sweet Serenity Triangle Scarf Pattern
DAY 2: Is It Knit Headband Crochet Pattern
To make this project you will need 1 to 2 skeins of Rosarium Mega Chunky in your favourite shade and a 15 mm (P/Q) hook. I made my ‘Is It Knit Headband’ with Sky Rose (Shade: 4705).
This project is crocheted using the Waistcoat Stitch, which is a strong and durable stitch created by making single crochet stitches (double crochet for UK crocheters) through the centre of each stitch. To do the waistcoat stitch properly you need to have one thread of the stitch on each side of the crochet hook, on both sides of your work.
The free pattern for my Is It Knit Headband is available in sizes Small Child (Age 3-5 years) to Adult Large. The free pattern includes links to my video and photo tutorials for the waistcoat stitch.”
