How to Knit Garter Stitch

History of the Stitch
First things first, why is it called garter stitch? Well fortunately for this writer Google has the answer!
Supposedly, in the past garters were knit in the garter stitch due to its elastic springy nature. We make the garter stitch by doing the knit stitch on every stitch on every row. All you need to know is how to cast on and how to work a knit stitch.

Garter stitch is excellent to use for a border of a blanket as it doesn’t curl like stocking stitch. It’s also great for making a knitted fabric that’s thick and slightly stretchy. This is one knitting basic that everyone needs to know.
